Nicknamed the Big Apple, New York, the cosmopolitan metropolis par excellence, and a city of unique charm, is one of the most desired tourist destinations in the world. New York brings together the best of art, design, architecture and music from around the world. The city is a symbol of different cultures and lifestyles, which meet every day in its frenetic and very rich everyday life. The nickname "The Big Apple" was first heard by John FitzGerald, horse racing editor of the New York Morning Telegraph, on the lips of two African American grooms from New Orleans, who, however, defined the New York racecourse as such. It was January 1920. FitzGerald liked the expression and used it in his newspaper, always referring to the racecourse. There is no place in the world that changes so often like this without ever changing! I have visited New York several times when I lived in Boston, and every time the city presented itself to me in a different dimension. Certain things disappear and others are born, it becomes gentrified, as the inhabitants of Manhattan say, when they want to tell that the old disadvantaged neighbourhoods are becoming chic. The photos are from a trip done in 2003, after the collapse of the twin towers. The Freedom Tower and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum were built in the same area The city is reborn because NY will never die!
