That mix of decadent past and intense present full of vitality, culture and art is actually the charm of Cuba. It is impossible not to be captivated by its retro atmosphere, where vintage cars seem to have stopped time in the 1950s. Havana looks like it could fall apart at any moment. There are refurbished and delightful areas but as soon as you turn the corner, everything falls away. But there is a kind of magical charm that can be perceived walking through the streets of Havana, with its pastel-colored houses, the small groups of people who stop along the streets to talk, the elderly sitting at tables to play. Everything is music, it is joy. Plaza de la Revolucion with the homonymous building dominated by the portrait of Che Guevara and the memorial to Josè Marti, is the emblem of pride, freedom and sacrifice. Strolling along the famous Malecon waterfront at sunset is a unique experience. The presence of Commander "Che" Guevara is in every corner of this beautiful country, especially in Santa Clara, and it was he who brought the Revolucion to this central part of the island. Santiago is the cradle of Cuban music, by the legendary Compay Segundo. Baracoa in the far east looks like a village from the past. To the far west is the splendid Viñales Valley, a karst depression located in the westernmost part of the island of Cuba. I have been to Cuba twice but I would gladly return again.
