Georgia, a former Soviet country, surprises for the splendid beauty of the country, for the friendliness of its inhabitants, for the goodness of its cuisine and last but not least for the history that has shaped it. Dominated since ancient times by invading peoples from both Asia and Europe for control of the Caucasus area, Georgia managed to gain its independence from the URSS in 1991 and become a place rich in history and traditions. They range from ancient rock cities to the imposing Orthodox monasteries that dominate valleys and rivers, from the green plains to the snow-capped peaks of the Greater Caucasus on whose slopes, among fortresses and remote villages, time seems to have stopped. The fascinating capital Tblisi, inhabited by over a million inhabitants, shows the history and religion present in every corner of common life, represented above all by the wonderful Orthodox churches and monuments that overlook the old city. A multi-ethnic, multicultural and multi-religious city, it is one of the most interesting capitals to visit in Europe. Georgians are neither European nor Asian, they are a people originally from the Caucasus. They are people with a friendly and cheerful character who willingly sit at a table between the scent of a barbecue and that of the wines that come from the vineyards of ancient Colchis. Our guide, Alessandro, who lived in Italy for 8 years, and therefore knows our culture well, masterfully led us to appreciate this country with his accurate and cultured descriptions.
