Tutti elegantemente vestiti. Sono tre paesi da non perdere!
A journey through different countries but with a common thread: animism as an indispensable contact with the afterlife, the rites of the ancestors, the myths, the customs of the tribe. To understand the deep, throbbing soul of the countries that have experienced the terrible trafficking of slave kings, who exported ancestral traditions and Voodoo rites with human flesh. Animism lives here, inextricably linked to these simple people, hidden under the rich Ashanti clothes, near the many Christian churches and mosques in the area, evident in the fetishes for sale in the markets. The Voodoo festival in Benin is an event not to be missed !! Voodoo is not a low form of black magic but a religion that gives meaning and order to the lives of millions of people, here and elsewhere in the world. During the ceremony it may happen that among the sounds of tamtam, dances, songs and sacrifices to the divinity, one or another Vudu takes possession of some followers, giving rise to authentic manifestations of trance. I have witnessed trance and it is really impressive to see how the human body writhes, it is a very complex phenomenon and difficult to understand for Westerners. In Lomé, stop at the "fetish market", the largest in West Africa, where a decidedly particular merchandise is on sale: monkey skulls, snake skins, bats and all the ingredients necessary for the preparation of magical potions. Another ceremony not to be missed is the Ashanti princes festival. In the Ashanti calendar, the princes of Kumasi in Ghana, some Sundays are called Akwasidae and correspond to a ceremony where the king sits on a throne under an umbrella and is honored by his dignitaries. It is a multicolored humanity: bearers of ritual swords, guardians armed with powder guns, bearers of knives used for executions, bearers of ostrich feather fans. All elegantly dressed. These are three countries not to be missed!
